Louisa's Diary: The Journal of a Farmer's Daughter: Dartmouth 1815/Pamphlet
Published in Paperback by Nimbus Publishing, Ltd. (July, 1992)
Author: Louisa Collins
Average review score:

Louisa's Diary
A wonderful book. These are the true diary entries of an 18-year old girl, written in 1815. By the end of the book, I felt as though I personally knew Louisa and the friends and family she mentions in her diary. I can picture her sitting up at night by candlelight writing her entries. It is very quaint how she refers to her future husband as "Mr. Beamish" throughout the book. I gave four stars, because the journal cuts off at such an interesting point, and I was left sadly empty. It made me want to research the descendants of Louisa.

Make Your Own Teddy Bear Sticker Postcards: 8 Blank Cards, 103 Stickers
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (February, 1991)

Average review score:

Fun!
Lots of very cute stickers. The bears are adorable, as are the various extras. Some of the stickers are themed and some are suited for any or most occassions. There are lots of possibilites for creating fun scenes. This would make a nice creative activity for a child. The only bad thing is that the stickers don't stick really well.

The author iteself shows the importance of attendance policy clearly and based on his experience in social works. Very good books indeed.

Marillion: Separated Out : The Complete History 1979-2002
Published in Paperback by Helter Skelter Publishing (April, 2003)
Author: Jon Collins
Average review score:

Very enjoyable book but just a few complaints...
For any Marillion fan, this is the best book out there as it covers every era up to the present. There are interviews with evryone past and present and the book is a very easy read (though be forwarned American readers there's a lot of British slang in there) and was pretty accurate with a nice dsicography in back as well.
My only complaints are that when it comes to each album the descriptions of the songs are at times unintentionally hilarious. The author goes WAY overboard with his emotions in describing songs. Here is the most ridiculous in describing the song "Warm Wet Circles": "...Steve Rothery breaks into an aching solo, full of pathos and longing...Ian Mosely's snare cracks and we feel the first bullet smashing into John Lennon on the steps of the Dakota Building". What? I feel a drum, I don't know about you. This goes beyond insanity. I mean, I laughed out loud at this and many others. The author clearly has no distance from the subject and Marillion can do no wrong.
I am a lifetime fan and let me say they've put out their fair share of [stuff] ("Radiat10n" and [local website] are prime examples). To his credit, he does have the fan perspective and some negative views are offered at times but not many.
If not for cringing at the reviews of the songs, I'd say this was a total pleasure. As is, it's a great book.

Mark T-W-A-I-N!: A Story About Samuel Clemens (A Carolrhoda Creative Minds Book)
Published in Library Binding by Carolrhoda Books (November, 1993)
Authors: David R. Collins and Vicky Carey
Average review score:

A backpack full of information about the great humorist!
Mark T-w-a-i-n was an interesting person with an exciting life! I was a little disappointed with the sad ending though. This book had BIG letters and would be easy for a fourth grader to read, but not too easy. Mark T-w-a-i-n would be good for a biography book report.

Michael Collins
Published in Unknown Binding by New English Library ()
Author: Rex Taylor
Average review score:

Interesting Bio of the Big Fellow
Of the now fairly numerous biographies of Michael Collins, this is one of the shortest but most readable. The author had access to many of Collins' personal papers and he writes in an easy and easily understood manner. The essential facts about the famous Irish revolutionary are there but there is much less detail than in more extensive biographies, not necessarily a bad thing. Overall, this account of Collins' life and exploits rings true and presents a picture of the real man and the incredible service he gave to Ireland during his short life. It also gives a vivid picture of the great love and loyalty he inspired in his rag-tag band of rebels, from whom he drew acts of bravery and devotion they themselves hardly realized they were capable of. Highly recommended if you want to get a real feel for a critical period of Irish history and a man unique in any era.

Michael Collins: Screenplay and Film Diary
Published in Paperback by Plume (November, 1996)
Author: Neil Jordan
Average review score:

Good behind-the-scenes view of the film
My copy of this screenplay diary is very nearly worn out! I have read it several times and have found it to be a good investment. Neil Jordan walks the reader through his feelings about making the film and includes some excellent black and white photos. He wrote that he has "never lost more sleep over the making of a film" than he did over _Michael Collins_. Indeed, it is easy to understand why. Jordan discusses his own reservations about taking on such a monumental task (as accurately capturing the truth behind an Irish hero) and he takes us along on his meetings with the actors. The screenplay of the film, including the list of actors and characters, is a neat read as well. If you are a die-hard fan of the movie, you will pick up on some subtle and not-so-subtle changes in the script. All things considered, this title would be a great investment for any fan of the film. If, on the other hand, you are simply looking for more information on one of the actors, the man behind the movie or the life of Neil Jordan, I would suggest you look elsewhere. This book is strictly concerned with the filmmaking process and would probably not be a good fit for any of those needs.

More Max Danger: The Continuing Adventures of an Expat in Tokyo (Tut Books)
Published in Paperback by Charles E Tuttle Co (January, 1989)
Author: Robert J. Collins
Average review score:

Not as funny as the first, but still good
While not as funny overall as the first "Max Danger" collections, I still love this book as much as when I first read it in the late 1980s. It has some more poignant essays (the chanper about the shoe repair man, or the Tokyo Olympics) than the first, but also has some hysterically funny chapters (the company wedding!) for anyone familar with Japanese popular culture.
